BiblioTemps is a
temporary staffing agency for public, academic and special libraries in
Massachusetts.
• Why does CMRLS offer BiblioTemps?
CMRLS’ program BiblioTemps
provides an important service to Regional members while at the same time developing
an alternative source of funds to support member services.
• How did CMRLS fund BiblioTemps?
CMRLS used a small amount of earned income to get the project started. CMRLS
did not using state funds earmarked for member services to finance
the service. BiblioTemps earns income that is reinvested in member services.
• How much are BiblioTemps paid?
BiblioTemps workers are paid according to their level of library experience.
CMRLS will bill the employers and issue the paychecks.
• Who does BiblioTemps
hire?
BiblioTemps hires people with library experience. We hire those with Master’s
degrees and those who can staff a circulation desk. People with knowledge of
all the different aspects of library work are potential BiblioTemps. If you
are retired, unemployed, a student or simply a part-time worker looking for
additional hours, BiblioTemps
is for you.

find people for employment?
We advertise through our website and reach as many people as possible through
mailings and promotional activities. If you know of someone who would make a
good BiblioTemp send them directly to BiblioTemps.com to fill out an
application.
• Where does BiblioTemps place workers?
BiblioTemps places workers in
Massachusetts
libraries.
• What kind of employers hire BiblioTemps?
Libraries in Massachusetts that find themselves short staffed to manage
public service desks, special projects or other aspects of library operations.
• Do BiblioTemps receive benefits?
No, BiblioTemps do not receive benefits. They are, however, covered through
CMRLS’ workers' compensation, unemployment and other liability policies.
• How do I become a BiblioTemp?
Fill out an application at BiblioTemps.com.
• Do I need to fill out an application if I submit a resume?
Yes, we need an application form from every person applying to be a
BiblioTemp.
• How do I hire a BiblioTemp?
Contact us to complete a Client Temporary Employment Agreement. Once completed
we can fill your request for personnel. When we have a contract on file, each
time you want to request a BiblioTemp you'll simply fill out the Request for
Personnel form to tell us what you need.
• Can I fill out an agreement if I don't have any temp needs right now?
Yes. Your contract will be kept on file until you request a worker at your
site.
• Can BiblioTemps register for CMRLS' continuing education workshops?
Only those BiblioTemps that are currently working in member libraries are
eligible to register for workshops on a space available basis.
